500-Pound Meteor Seen on Tuesday Has Flare Brighter Than Full Moon
Three NASA meteor cameras spotted a 500-pound fireball meteor travelling at 45,000 mph that streaked through the sky over Pittsburgh. The event took place at 4:45 am EST on Tuesday.
NASA has released a video footage from the camera at the Allegheny Observatory near Pittsburgh. Almost 100 witnesses have reported seeing the fireball and other three have reported of hearing a ‘boom’ near Pittsburgh shortly after the fireball passed.
The space rock was two feet in diameter and as per NASA officials, it entered earth’s atmosphere above western Pennsylvania. Experts shared that when friction takes places with earth’s atmosphere then it burns up space rocks and especially bright meteors, which is known as fireballs.
